What is Two Jaw surgery?

Two Jaw surgery (Double Jaw surgery, Orthognatic surgery) is the largest facial bone surgery done in plastic surgery. This surgery alters both shape and position of the jaw bone – it is referred as Two jaw surgery when both upper and lower jaw goes under surgery at the same time. Two jaw surgery (Double Jaw surgery, Orthognatic surgery) gives dramatic change in the appearance as major section of bone is removed as well as the structure is re-positioned. Two Jaw surgery requires 2.5~4 hours of the operation, and requires the patient to use braces prior to and after the surgery. The recovery is at least 2 weeks to a month, and it takes much longer for the patient to start actual daily life. Since is major bone reduction surgery, conventional Two jaw surgery (Double Jaw surgery, Orthognatic surgery) surgery should be chosen with careful and through consideration as it is known to be dangerous and has chance to damage the nerve system on the lower mandible.
